Improvement of TCP Reno Congestion Control Protocol
نویسندگان
چکیده
TCP Reno increases its congestion window exponentially during the phase of initial slow start. This leads a series of problems. For this reason, a piecewise mathematical function model which is symmetrical about midpoint is proposed. The growth rate of congestion window is accelerated at first and the growth rate of congestion window slows down at last during the phase of slow start so that it can smoothly transit to the phase of congestion avoidance. The algorithm also makes use of the bottleneck link based on the measurement method to calculate the network bandwidth so that the slow start threshold is set to the network bandwidth. Its congestion window, throughput, friendliness is assessed and validated by NS2 simulation. The new algorithm can effectively reduce the losses for network transmission of packets and decrease the number of network jitter. Copyright © 2014 IFSA Publishing, S. L.

Fairness Evaluation and Comparison of Current Congestion Control Techniques
Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is used by many applications on the Internet for the reliable data transmission. TCP does not able to utilize the available link bandwidth quickly and efficiently in High bandwidth short RTT and high bandwidth long RTT networks. Many congestion control techniques also known as TCP variants are developed to solve these problems in different network environment...
متن کاملTCP Veno: TCP enhancement for transmission over wireless access networks
Wireless access networks in the form of wireless local area networks, home networks, and cellular networks are becoming an integral part of the Internet. Unlike wired networks, random packet loss due to bit errors is not negligible in wireless networks, and this causes significant performance degradation of transmission control protocol (TCP). We propose and study a novel end-to-end congestion ...
متن کاملA Cross Layer Congestion Control Algorithm in Wireless Networks for TCP Reno-2
In this paper, we discuss a cross layer congestion control technique of TCP Reno-2 in wireless networks. In this both TCP layer and PHY layer jointly control congestion. The PHY layer changes transmission power as per the channel condition, interference received and congestion in the network, whereas the TCP layer controls congestion using Reno-2 window based flow control. Our simulations show ...
متن کاملSRF TCP: A TCP-Friendly and Fair Congestion Control Method for High-Speed Networks
TCP Reno congestion control carries two issues. First, its performance is poor in high-speed networks. To solve this TCP Reno drawback, HighSpeed TCP and Scalable TCP were proposed. However, the fairness between these proposed TCP and TCP Reno is not considered, when both connections coexist. Second, TCP Reno connections share bandwidth unfairly, when TCP flows with different RTTs use the same ...
متن کاملATCP: Improving TCP performance over mobile wireless environments
Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is known to suffer from performance degradation in mobile wireless environments. This is because such environments are prone to packet losses due to high bit error rates and mobility induced disconnections. TCP interprets packet losses as an indication of congestion and inappropriately invokes congestion control mechanisms, leading to degraded performance. Wh...
متن کاملTCP Westwood: End-to-End Congestion Control for Wired/Wireless Networks
TCP Westwood (TCPW) is a sender-side modification of the TCP congestion window algorithm that improves upon the performance of TCP Reno in wired as well as wireless networks. The improvement is most significant in wireless networks with lossy links. In fact, TCPW performance is not very sensitive to random errors, while TCP Reno is equally sensitive to random loss and congestion loss and cannot...
